How the test is organised

The test has three timed parts, always in this order. Many tasks are integrated: one answer counts towards two skills, so a single task such as Read Aloud or Write From Dictation can move two of your scores.

1. Part 1 — Speaking and Writing: a short personal introduction, the Speaking tasks, then the Writing tasks, each writing task with its own timer.
2. Part 2 — Reading: one shared timer for all Reading questions.
3. Part 3 — Listening: recordings played once, with Summarize Spoken Text timed on its own.

• Speaking answers are recorded in the browser and scored on content, pronunciation and oral fluency, with the words you said marked against the text.
• Written answers are scored on the traits the task is marked on — such as content, form, grammar, vocabulary and spelling — with your mistakes highlighted.
• Reading and listening answers are marked straight away, showing which choices were right.
• Every attempt gets written feedback that explains what to change next time.
